Hello MacInnes/McInnes/s family |
I'm looking for anyone who is related to Donald McInnes DOB 1802 and immigrated to Australia. There are a few Donald's and I'm not sure who is mine LOL. I'm proud to be a McInness and one day would love to go to Scotland and see where we all started.

tenuous link connecting Munster to Dal Riata |
I recently took a DNA test on Ancestry UK and discovered I had 2% Munster DNA.
After perusing various DNA matches I discovered I had matches to one or two people in Ireland, including an O'Brien and a Murphy.
I've just discovered another DNA match from Northern England where our *only* commonality is our Munster DNA. However this seems to come via an Irish ancestor with the surname of Watson.
Apparently the Watson surname has heavy links to the Kingdoms of Dal Riata in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
I wonder if this confirms, however tenuously, that people did indeed move from Munster to Dal Riata as the legends say. :) |

Hugh Lloyd McInnis |
I contact you through this medium because I try to find relatives of Hugh Lloyd McInnis. This soldier , born in 1924, died bravely in 1945 in WWII. He is buried in the US cemetery of Margraten, in the south of the Netherlands. Every grave is adopted by a Dutch person.
The board of the organisation of adoptions graves Margraten (https://adoptiegraven-margraten.nl) asked me to search for family or relatives of Hugh.
I saw his name here mentioned. Is anybody here a possible relative of Hugh?
Yours sincerely, Gerda Meijer |

Deep Dive Last Name History |
|
I was looking for a gift for my uncle, it recommended some form of tartan clothes.. I didn't know which clan we were as i'd never looked. I deep dived into AI and have spent the last hour reading all the information. Fascinating reading all about the clans history. My gran, who has since passed was absolutely fascinated by family history but unsure how far she got too. |

Family History Published |
Malcolm MacInnes, born 1708, occupied the farm of "Kinlochwood" near Isleornsay in the parish of Sleat Isle of Skye, north-west Scotland. His ancestors held this farm and also the Beanagrean sheep farm from time immemorial. Tradition says that this MacInnes came from Morven with MacDonald when he took possession of Armadale Castle and the parish of Sleat.
Malcolm the above mentioned was married and had three sons, John, Donald and Angus. John held "Kinlochwood" after his father. He married and had five sons and one daughter: Malcolm, Neil, Myles, Jonathan, Angus and Rachel.
One of the descendants of Malcolm was Christina MacInnes and this publication "The Family of Frank & Christina Lugsdin, including the Forebears of Christina MacInnes" documents her ancestors and life, and family. |

Descendant of Clan MacInnes |
|
My grandmother Marguerite MacInnes emigrated to America in 1886 at the age of 3 (not by herself, of course). Living in Harrison, New Jersey, she married James Harvey Brown, of Dutch ancestry, had seven children and many grandchildren. She played the piano and took me with her on excursions when I was little. She died in 1977 at the age of 94. |

MACAONGHAIS A-RITHIST! |
I just want to say, Thank you so much for providing some insight to my ancestors. It's a shame so many have lost the curiosity and pride from who we are and where we come from. Ravenously searching a few years ago but came up with nothing. This was a treat and treasure trove to read.
My dad's maternal grandparents emigrated here from The Homeland. I can still remember Great-Gramma Anna Mcinnis's thick accent and couldn't hardly understand her. I was very young. She died when I was 6-ish. She was in her 90s. My dad loved her deeply as did the people who knew her. I only wish I knew more about her. |

McINNES Clan Isle of Skye |

My great-grandfather (father's side) was Alexander McInnes 1864-1930 born & died Australia. His father was John McInnes b. Isle of Skye 1823 d. Sydney Australia 1902. I can trace McInnes line to Donald c. 1780, Iain Dubh (Black John) McINNES (of Kinloch Wood) 1745-1781; Malcolm (Mor Maolchalum-Big Malcolm) MacINNES 1697-1768; Malcolm 1630-1735; Niel (Niall A' Bhoga - Niall of the Bow) MacINNES 1580 but that's about it. Greetings from New Zealand |
Discovering this site has been instrumental in exploring our rich Scottish heritage. Many Scottish settlers made their home here in New Zealand, and today, roughly 20% of New Zealanders can trace their ancestry to Scotland. Having access to this platform has been invaluable in uncovering those connections.
I have Scottish ancestry on both my mother's and father's sides, but my strongest link is through my late Nana, Jill McInnes. Thanks to her, we've been able to trace our lineage back to 1834, when my great-great-grandparents (McInneses) migrated from the Isle of Skye. It's incredible to see these offical records and to feel that connection to our roots.
Being a member has made it so much easier to access this wealth of information about our clan itself , and it's been wonderful to share these findings with my father. It's brought back cherished memories for him, reminding him of the stories and family history his mum and grandfather shared with him as a child. |

Hi, just wanted to thank you for how thorough this website is. I have searched for many years to find where my McCash ancestors came from, finally found that before they left Scotland in 1787, they were McAnsh, and just found that that name is connected to MacInnes. I'm very grateful to find so much information collected on this one site. |

McKinnis |
Hello, I was thrilled to come across this site!
I'm researching my McKinnis line. I've done the DNA from Ancestry.com my Thru-Lines go back to Alexander McInnes, born 1750 in Lanarkshire, Scotland. He left Scotland with his son Jamesborn in Edinburgh 1778, and came to Moore County, N. Carolina. Then along the line somewhere the last name changed in spelling to McKinnis, His son, James ended up in Tenn, then My great grandparents were in Missouri, then to Colorado.
I've run into a brick wall trying to track down anything for Alexander's parents? Can anyone point me in the the right direction? I'm coming to Scotland the end of the month and would love to now more on the locations of my ancestors.
Very excited to see Scotland!
Thank You in advance!

Hello all! I am a descendant of clan McAngus and My great-great-grandfather, William McAngus immigrated to Texas in 1866 from Tain, Rosshire. He married Jesse McKenzie also from Scotland. They settled southeast of Austin, TX and had 11 children. I am a descendant of his daughter Annie Belle McAngus Bradshaw. I visited Tain in 1977 when I was 14 and met some distant cousins. I also met a branch of the family of Donald McAngus of Winnipeg. If there are any McAngus descendants still living near Tain I would love to connect with you! And I'd also love to hear from the Donald McAngus family from Winnipeg! |

Hi distant family,
I would be interested in conversing with some distant rellos & would like to tour the Western Scottish Highlands & coastal areas.
My great grandfather Malcome came to Australia in the late 1800's as the son of a free settler family & landed in Tasmania.
Later Malcome moved to a farm near Maffra Victoria where he & his wife had Angus, my grandfather.
Angus married Matilda Burley & they moved to a farm in Neneilla Victoria & had my father Clarence. Clarry married my mothrer Edna Ashton & they farmed near Echuca Victoria |

Hello for another American MacInnes |
Hello! I'm glad IN found this website. My mother's maiden name was MacInnes (MacInnis) from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Based on my genealogical research, her ancester Joseph MacInnes, born 1813, left South Uist and went ended up in PEI. He marriaged Ann MacDonald in 1844 and died December 1, 1884.
I visited Scotland in 2023 with my son on a golf trip. We visited Edinburgh, St. Andrews, and North Berwick. This summer, we'll be visiting St. Andrews, Aberdeen, and Inverness. |

McInnis heritage |
|
My McInnis ancestors came to Prince Edward Island, Canada in the early 1800's. My father grew up there and his parents moved to Rhode Island in the 1920's but moved back to PEI in the 1960's. He did a complete genealogy of the family back to the original emigrant from Skye. I have a copy of it. I had the pleasure of cruising around the Isles in 2021 in our sailboat, including Islay, Jura, and Loch Aline. Fun seeing the ancestral areas. |

I'm just here to introduce myself to the clan from which my family originated it would seem. McNeish |
Hello all! Love the page. It's great to be a part of a bigger Family!
Margaret McNeish & John Black were the parents of a daughter Margaret, born & baptized in Aug 1729 on in Rothesay, Bute, Scotland. Margaret's father's name was James but I've not been able to find anything about him. They are my 7th Great Grandparents, (Margaret Black my 6th. She married John McCurdy.) The women are my direct female line straight from my mother to grandmother & up my family tree. I have taken my mtdna test, too.
It's fascinating to see how our family migrated across the world. Sometimes you can see how certain events in history effected their move. Is their anyone who may be able to help me with Margaret's father, James? Thank you cousins! :-) |

Greetings |

My sister recently did a DNA genealogy test and although we always thought we were Irish, the results came back as "Scottish"". Our last name is McGinnis. I've always felt some odd connection to Scotland, so the results make me happy! |

I visited the clan castle and Kiel Church a few years ago. Beautiful area! Found the McInnis name in a logbook at a croft house historic site on Skye. Maybe some of the names in that book travelled to Canada in the late 1800s where my family had its origins. |

Family tree research |
Hi all
With the help of Ancestry, I have traced back my family tree (Paternal side/Grandmother) to Angus MacInnes born in 1500. I hope it is correct and it's so interesting as up to a couple of generations ago, the MacInnes/MacLeods had remained in Skye.
Three generations back Christy MacInnes married a John MacLeod, eventually they moved down to the Glasgow area. |

I am working on my family tree. I am looking for information on Angus Aonghas (Og) MacInnis born December 3, 1787 Barra, Scotland married to Louisa MacDonald June 13, 1822 Kilbar, Barra, Scotland.
My family is planning on visiting in Summer 2023 to Barra and would like more information on ancestry and where we could visit to learn more. I would also like to add in Angus's parents. TIA |

Connecting The Old World To The New World |
|
I am the 8th generation from Charles of Bona Bonia(?). After viewing the 1914 reunion document lineage chart and confirming with a genealogical search, I am related to Charles; that solves the new world connection. I now need to uncover the history of Charles' family in Scotland. My hope is to journey to Scotland and touch the grave of Charles' father/family and then touch Charles' grave in Pennsylvania. It seems trivial but I need to close the loop on my family; connect the ancient to the modern. I want to pass this knowledge on to my son and grandson. Thank you for putting this website together. You have been a wealth of knowledge. Any thoughts on how to begin to research Charles' family history in Scotland? I also want to discover the family crest and tartan. I was given a crest as a gift from a store in Disneyland but I have some doubts it's historically accurate. Thanks for your time and efforts for the clan. See you on the Association side soon. |

The Son of a McMaster woman |
|
Recently did a DNA test that got me properly looking into my family history on my mother side. and uncovered the fact that prior to emigrating to Northern Ireland, my forebears were in fact Scotsmen and part of a sept of the MacInnes clan. Really cool history and I am looking to head up to the west coast of Scotland to go and check it out some of the historical sites soon. Would be cool if the clan reintroduced a chief. |

From Mississippi |

I was named after my Great Great Grandfather Phillip Alexander McInnis on my grandmother's side . Not sure who my father is but after taking DNA test from ancestry I do have 58% Scottish in me, which I know not all of that can be from my mother even if she was 100% Scottish. I feel most of Scottish is from the McInnis side. I just so happened to find this website after finding the homecoming tartan on the Scottish registry. |

History of Angus |
Hi, I am very interested in finding out our lines back to first Angus. I am also wondering if we were part of the Jacobite rebellion. I have registered for the DNA Project but my understanding is that because I am female this will not help in my search.
The furthest back that family members have been able to go is:
* my great great grandfather Angus McInnes 1846 Isle of Skye, Scotland married to Mary Jane Marjorie McInnes 1856 Portsmouth, England UK. *Great grandfather Donald McInnes born 1886 Newcastle Australia (2 x siblings born in New Zealand) married to Lucy Australia Miller Australia
*Grandfather Donald Alexander McInnes born 1922 Australia married Jean Butler born 1944 Australia
*Father John Howard McInnes |

Thanks for your site and the information. My name is Angus, which I was given from the hyphenated name of my Maternal Grandmother's side of the family. She wore a McInnes tartan kilt which was also passed down in recognition of the family line. Before she died I she told me that the Kinlochaline castle was something to do with our family, although the story is unclear. |

Return to My Homeland |
|
My husband and I are visiting Scotland this summer. We will be one hour away from my homeland on our tour on June 23rd, 2022. We are staying the night at Ballachulish Hotel, Argyll. I don't think that I can escape from our commercial tour for the day to visit Ardtornish. But, I will certainly try. Is there anyone who knows the easiest way to get to Ardtornish from Ballachulish? My dad visited years ago, and he was welcomed home in the pub. They sang songs and celebrated his reunion with his kin. I would love to experience this even if I have to go AWOL for a day. Like him, I'm a bit of a renegade. Janet Mac Innes Webb |

Western Canadian looking for possible relatives |

Hello! My name is Shandra McInnes (maiden name), and I have a 17 yr old son named Hunter McInnes. Hunter is the last (young) McInnes in my Grandfather's line. I don't know any other McInnes' that we might be related to. My Grandfather's name was Gordon McInnes, and apparently his mother changed our name from MacInnes (circa late 1800's). Gordon settled in Chemainus BC, where he married and raised his three children. |

Canadian McInnes looking for info |

Hello from Canada! I was trying to find out where the McInnes clan originated and came across this site. I look forward to browsing it! I don't know a lot about my ancestors however I would like to find out more information on my family history and about my dad's uncle, Charlie McInnes. He was a blind professor in Scotland. My dad was born here in Calgary,Alberta, Canada and his name was Douglas Glenson McInnes. My siblings and I all still spell it MCINNES with the exception of my older brother who changed his name to MACINNES. |

Skye Bowman link to Canada |
|
We have long assumed that the Arms matriculated by Murdoch MacInnes with the Arm and the Bow link back to the Skye Bowmen. But I have been unable to find any family linkage to support this. Murchoch came over on a Hector, but there are many Hector journeys, not just one. Anyone with more information that they can share. I was able on Ancestry.com to find the tree for Neil of the Bow, but Murdoch is not a name found in the tree. |

Oak Island Connections of Trees and McGinnis |
|
I am researching unique trees found in Nova Scotia on Oak Island as early as 1760 and photo'd till they disappeared in 1920. No other similar trees found in Western Hemisphere. Thought Oak, maybe evergreen. Recently found photo'd on Isle of Raasay near Isle of Skye. Seeking more tree info. Descendants of Maol Caluim McInnes born 1735 in Leitir Fura, who's son Donald McInnis born 1743-1798 also in Leitir Fura came to N.S. to establish Free Mason Lodge(s) in 1773. His son, Cpt. Donald Daniel McInnes/McInnis was born on the Isle of Skye (1762-1824. The rest of the lineage I have from current living descendants. Since the only linkage I have about those unknown canopied-trees between Isle of Raasay and Oak Island in Nova Scotia is the migration of McInnis/McInnes from Isle of Skye... seeking more information of both, and would earlier Scots (McInnis et. al.) bring such trees with them. Tree Description: Tall, with thin sinuous trunks of light colored bark or no bark, with a very thin top umbrella-shaped canopy supported by many upward branching limbs. No or few deformed lower branches, tree may separate into two stems/trunks. Photo'd near ocean/sea on peninsula (Isle of Raasay) or Oak Island (Nova Scotia) only. Not photo'd in fall foliage. Some Isle of Raasay photos shows some lower foliage bunches appear to be growing directly from the trunk, perhaps where limb-shedding has occurred. Would hire anyone to provide more info on either the McInnis men of Skye/Raasay/Leitir Fura circa 1735 to 1775. Hopefully related to above family or who moved to Nova Scotia/Oak Island/Chester/Lunenburg. And any information of Gaelic or Scottish lore regarding these trees. These trees were never cut down, even when all other trees in NS at the time were felled. Why? Any material received would be used in an upcoming book. If the material or providers are not authorizing it to be used, please let me know. Can be reached at dneisen@satx.rr.com Will provide photos. |

Finding Knowledge |
My father, Duncan William Macinnes was an RAF technician, based at MU60 for sometime, around 41/45 years ago...worked with the red arrows and on prince Charles's request (via p.a. I presume)..
My grandfather James Macinnes, an RAF pilot who never mentioned his raf past, his wife Henrietta Macinnes told of James being a hero, never any details..
I now have 2 sons Jet Li Macinnes and Luke John Macinnes, and they are the reason behind my search for details about our family name..
I have seen a family crest and tartan, but this was years ago and I don't remember it. |

I answered the question on the DNA project thing about the farthest back ancestor I knew and I got a response that they thought I was after general info about the ancestor I shared and denied my DNA and told me to post my ancestor here... I didn't think it was for genealogy just DNA. I don't need genealogy help. I just wanted to donate to the project. Thanks for listening. Contact me please if you know what I did wrong or whatever. Excited to learn |
Hello clan! I'm excited to learn about my Scottish side. My grandfather John was Scottish & had his family crests on display all my life.
When he passed on the crests were given to his eldest daughters. His father was adopted (unknown clan) so they were brought up under his mother's clan, the McInnes/MacInnes'. Their family (my great grandma) left Scotland when they were small (before my Grandpa was a thought) and they came to Canada.
My Grandfather was born and raised in Canada, met and married my Grandmother who was Indigenous (she passed as well). My Grandpa's children also married Indigenous so today in BC Canada there are MacInnes' that are also Indigenous/First Nations and will continue on our combined heritage.
I will be a sponge here and hope one day I can meet our clan in person once COVID takes a hike. |

Greetings to all MacInnes's!
My part of the clan's spelling changed sometime around when my ancestors fled Scotland after the Battle of Culloden and made their way to Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada.
My father and many of his siblings came to the Detroit, Michigan, area in the early to mid-1920's.
I hope all reading this are well and of good cheer...we MacInnes's are a hearty bunch!

Myself and ancestors are originally from Moray/Banffshire, Scotland and after any info on James McInnes 1783-1863. James died in Canada having married for a second time in Scotland to Jane Malcolm. a new form of angus |
|
hey guys recently came across a good tree trunk for the family and clan. the nameis Aeon'sgoth meaning one cloud. i believe it has a lot of power and should belong to our family, available to a growing tree of the future. what are your thoughts and if you'd like to get involved let me know. I will one day approach Lord Lyon of Scottland to get it approved and create a new crest. i have created a crest already. email if you'd like to see it and possibly pursue change to Aeon'sgoth along with me. |

New Angus differentiation |
Hey family,
I am seriously making a move to a new family name, Angos. I was previously McInnis but have gone through some things that inspired me to be Angos. Gos reminds me of sgoth, the Gaelic word for cloud. Clouds are powerful things, bringing rain and cover from the sun and so on. Excited for a new part of the family. Plus it will be beneficial to find our lineage from this day on. I will be sure to update the family tree and will soon be looking for records that lead me to our ancestral path. Have a good night and blessings to all of Angus. |

Starting my journey |
Hi All
I'm trying to learn more about my history. I've tried to start research but both my grandparents have passed and I'm lost as to where to start. If anyone has any suggestions I would be incredibly appreciative. From what I know my grandmother had traced us back to Skye but I don't have access to her research. |

Looking for Info - Alexander MacInnis |
|
I'm looking for any ancestral information on Alexander MacInnis. He emigrated from Scotland taking his family and they settled on a 200 acre homestead on Southwest Mabou Ridge, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in the year 1822. He was from Lochaber, and I'm trying to confirm a familial link to the Cape George MacInnises also from Lochaber. |

I came across this website while I was looking for some of my clan origins, found out I was a sept in the MacInnes. I started looking because My family hasn't been the best to me and I'd like to re establish my roots and get some new connections. My name comes from my Dads side and he grew up in Nova Scotia. I was hoping to visit Scotland over the summer to meet my clan and embrace some of the traditions. I was just wondering if there are any McMasters or MacMasters who would be happy to show a lost sheep its way haha. |

Came across this website while researching my family name a bit more. My Fathers side of the family are all Gaidhlig speakers from the isle of Uist in Scotland. We have a family tradition of naming the first born Male Angus. Making my name Aonghas MacAonghas in Gaidhlig. Would be interested to find out if anyone else has family links back to Uist. |

Halo uile, latha math dhut! |
My Names Jared E Angus. My Family is made up from the Campbells and the Angus clans. Very little was known but as a child I spent a lot of time with my great grandparents. My great grand fathers brother Told me that his fathers father had told him," there were 2 brothers Ike and Pike Macinnes That sailed from Scotland. they landed off the coast of Virginia and started a family in the blue ridge mountains. Piney rivers to be exact. Thats as much as I know. At some point my family lost the Macinnes and simplified it to Angus. Happy to meet any and all of your acquaintances And may god bless oyu. I know our "familes relation is probably very wide spread. As my great Grand mother who was a Campbell had 14 brothers and 13 sisters. Much the same family size for my great grand father. Any one who may have any Record of a Ike and Pike Macinnes or Angus let me know at

Hello All |
|
Hello Family, I am writing in search of stories surrounding Robert McInnes b. 1822. He left Scotland and landed in Thedford Not. Canada circa 1847. He married Lydia McPherson and moved to Lapeer Michigan. They had several children, one of which was my great great grandfather John Robert McInnes. John Robert married Melissa Chaterine Vary in 1876 who both died in Silverwood Michigan in 1929 and 1944 respectively. I am enjoying learning about my family. Please email me if you have any additional information. Be safe, |

The Castle! |
|
I made my trek to Lochaline almost a year ago. It's almost 20 miles of single track road driving to get there and it was terrifying but worth every second. I'm used to the wide roads of Canada. Scotland felt like a second home. The small village that had only one store for everyone was super friendly. I highly recommend it anyone who loves history and wants to see a part of it that you are connected to. I was hesitant to ring the bell but there wasn't anyone home anyway, but I did get several pictures and a fantastic memory. Not to mention alllll the other castles we stopped at that are everywhere. Doune castle was great. Lot's of film history in that one. Suffice to say that if you are interested, GO! |

Hello to the Clan! |
|
Hello, I stumbled upon this page while looking up the Kinlochaline Castle. I have seen some of my ancestry in the past, and it stated we stem from Angus MacInnes, and somewhere the spelling changed. If I can find these documents would you be interested in copies? Also, I saw where a Donald Malcolm Mcinnis Jr had a post on here. We have a Malcolm Mcinnis in our tree, but unsure if he's got Donald in the name. This is all very fascinating and I'm glad to have found you site! Sincerely, Katherine Mcinnis Ray. |

Looking into Family ancestry |
Hello to all and thank you for allowing me to reach out . I am starting to research my ancestry, (my cousin did some of the legwork already) I recently found out my great great grandmother had the surname MacMaster. (Spelled with Mac) Her parents are Robert and Edith MacMaster from Abram ( once a Pictish village I believe) I am hoping to find kin who know of Robert MacMaster from that area. I am looking into doing a DNA, but not sure if it would be better determined by having my Sons done first . Any information on how I can best get looped in and truly trace my tree is greatly appreciated.

We went to our first Celtic festival, and we have always thought we were just Irish. Short history compared to others |
|
Angus and Mary {Campbell) emerated to the USA and settled in Tauton, Mssachusetts in the 1800's. That is far as I go with my ancestry. Why they came to the USA is a mystery. Not sure what employment Angus had. Daughter Mary is the great grandmother. She married Robert Afleck and had four daughters plus a son Peter. Peter died in his thirties. The four auntts Lizzie, Kate, Belle and Jennie would be grandparents to me. Jennie was my grandmother. Mary Aflect moved to Philadelphia and the trail stops there. Anyone relating to this information would be welcome. |

Hello from Downunder |
So pleased to have discovered your site and to read your Winter newsletter - page 11 certainly struck a cord with me "Let's Talk About Septs - and the MacMasters". My McMaster's are from Wigtownshire Scotland (traced them back to 1774) but perhaps with further research I might find they are descended from the MacMasters of Ardgour.
Cheers, Susan. |

The Nish's |
Hello and g'day to all from the great land down under!
From reading on this page I find that my family name would have originated from McNeish, in some searches I have found that McNeish's were a part of the McGreggor clan and now from this site it says MacInnes? Can anyone provide some clarity for me? I'm looking to find out more so I can obtain our family crest.
Would the McNeish's have had their own family crest/tartan colours or wore that of the main clan they were a sept of?
Any help or info would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Are we non-a McInneses part of this plus-a MacInnes clan? I totally identify with the wild highlander standing barefoot in the snow, especially in contrast to the other gentlemen in their lovely court tartans and lace. The motto, "McInnes again!" reminds me of my first day in 3rd grade at Our Lady of Lourdes. Two nuns were walking by the line of us 3rd graders and when they passed me, I heard Sister Agnes Virginia say, "Another McInnes." I'm the youngest of 5. it's a blessing and a curse. I've been to Kinlochaline and as soon as I get enough butter together, I plan on buying it!

Descendant |
I am a direct descendant of John Macinnis of Argyllshire, 1735. I am just getting into all of this history, but am very fascinated with my Scottish roots. My grandmother is Macinnis (Mcinnis) and my grandfather was MacDonald. I've only been able to trace back to John Mcinnis so far. Please email me anything about the clan. I am meaning to travel during March 2019 to Scottland for the first time. Thanks

Thank you,

John A. McInnis |
I am so happy to have found this site!
I am researching the McInnis/McInnes (I have found at least two spellings) line of my family and have stalled at my great great grandfather, John McInnis who was born December 11, 1843 and died Aug. 3, 1866. He died in Caledon, Peel County, Ontario. I have him as being born in the same area but am skeptical about this. He was married to Catherine Baxter and had two children , Elizabeth and John Baxter McInnis. I would LOVE it if anyone can give me some guidance as I seem to run into a dead end everywhere I turn!!! |

MacInnis is apparently the Y DNA match. Alexander " Sandy " Bowes was his name mother's name Jessie Bowes from Motherwell / Glasgow area. I have read there is a DNA study being done of Mac Innis line. Other then Urguhart from Cromarty on my mother's side I have Mathesons Walkers MacLeods MacKnights etc from father's side. If the group would like the DNA results more then welcome From a new found MacInnis. |

Excited! |
So excited to find this page. My grandparents were from Skye and names were Catherine Macinnes and Donald McInnes (who was in the Police force there). My father, Thomas Macinnes - b 1927 d 1999, took his mothers name and they later moved to Cambletown on Kintyre. Dad had 4 siblings, Catherine, John, Donald and Jimmy (james). The whole family then settled in Dunoon, Argyle. I am in the process of finding dates so I can elaborate.
Looking forward to finding out more. |

descendant of Rory "Saor" MacInnis |
Just wanted to say hello and to let you know that I have inherited MacInnis land in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. It's been in my family since early 1800's. I havent walked all of it yet but it is so very special. I am truly blessed. I have been researching my family for almost 20 yrs so it is quite the feeling to finally have a great starting place to learn and grow. My line would be Rory(Saor), Michael(Saor), Donald, Stephen, James(Red), and James. My ancestors came over from Barra Scotland in 1817.
It is an honor to be a MacInnis. |

Ciamar a tha sibh,
I have been very interested in my clan history but believe there's Mudie also. I was named after my great uncle RIP, Alexander McInnes who was named after either HIS father or uncle.
If you have any info regarding my Great Uncle would be wonderful. I have hit a dead end looking into his history from ww2 back. I've been told he was a firefighter during the Battle of Britian/Blitz time period.
Tapadh leibh and it's wonderful to see Clan Macinnes rise again! |

I found a book on Highland Clans some years ago that stated that Irons was a sept of Clan MacAonghais and MacInnes. My ancestors came to New Jersey from Perth and during the 1790 census stated so. I also did the Irons DNA Project and I have the Viking gene. Am I a MacInnes clan member?

Grandfather, also Lachlan, came to NZ and the rest is history |

Culloden Appin Marker |
Greetings MacInnes
I am also disappointed in the NTS placement of the name MacLaren on the Appin Marker. It gives the impression that Balquhidder MacLarens fought in the Appin Regiment, which they did not. There were 27 Appin McLaurins who fought in the Appin Regiment, including my ancestor Duncan McLaurin who later emigrated to N.C. in 1790. These McLaurins had been in Appin since at least 1468 and where maternal progenitors of Dugald McLaurin Stewart, 1st Appin. My view is that the current MacLaren Chief and Societies are simply glory hunters. Specifically stealing the Appin McLaurins history as their own. None of the McLaurin descendants were consulted and shows disrespect to the actual 13 McLaurins killed and 14 McLaurin survivors of Culloden.
These Appin McLaurins recognized the Stewart of Appin as Clan Chief (not the MacLaren Chief) and followed Ardsheal into battle. They had nothing to do with the Balquhidder MacLarens since the 15th century, when they left Strathearn to take Appin in the name of Dugald McLaurin Stewart, then settle there amongst the MacColl, Livingstone and MacInnes.
I have contacted NTS and Culloden itself to no avail, this insult to our common heritage needs to be revived and pursued vigorously.
A correction, The Perthshire MacLarens had a continuous line of Strathearn Clan Chiefs for at least 600 years up through the early 1900's. Donald McLaren of Ardveche, Strathearn was the last. This is not publicized because the current Clan Chief of the name MacLaren claim is bogus, he claims descent from Auchleskine which was not the Chiefs line, but a sub-branch. Modern scholarship has also shown his genealogy is a complete fabrication and that "The MacLarens" the so-called definitive history of the Clan is mostly fiction. Ex. Abbot Labran of Achtow the so-called progenitor of Clan MacLaren never existed.
Cordially

My Grandmother Mary Macinnes left Oban sometime in the 1920's. Her reason for leaving was kept a secret, possibly pregnancy or something similar, however it was never mentioned. My father was born in Stafford, England in 1929-30, the father is not mentioned on his birth certificate. Does anyone know of a Mary Macinnes leaving their family around this time for reasons unexplained? Mary died when I was around 14 years old, 1969. I do have an old photo of her if it helps. Thank you. |

Malcolm(Calum Mor) MacInnes |
Hello, I am a great grandson of Isabella MacInnes, Daughter of Alexander MacInnes, son of Malcolm (Calum Mor) of Heast.
Alexander and Isabella came to Australia in 1853. She married Donald, son of Archie(Tigharry North Uist, son of Ranald, son of Archie ban of Grianan) MacDonald in Australia.
Just wondering if anyone had any further info on the the Calum Mor generation and beyond.
I am reasonably certain I have things correct as far as Malcolm.

Interested in learning more about the family. |
Was doing research on McNease name and found this site: https://www.houseofnames.com/mcnease-family-crest
The site states that the original family name is a Dalriadan Scottish name which is a cognate of MacAngus and MacInnes. So would love to know more about the family.
I have also found this site that recounts the life of Angus. http://macinnes.org/dalriada.php |

McInnes |
Looking for information on my wife's family (McInnes). Marriage between John McInnes and Mary MacPherson, both from the Isle of Skye. This was John's second marriage (1. to Mary McKinnon). The marriage between John McInnes and Mary MacPherson was believed to have taken place on the Isle of Skye, or mainland around 1818. Any assistance/help in this would be greatly appreciated, seeing we are on the other side of the world, makes it somewhat difficult to check first hand.

looking for my roots |
|
Greetings! I am researching my ancestors. I believe I am from the Roger Magenis/William McGinnis' from the Belfast area, but not entirely sure. I stumbled on this site and love it. I am hoping to visit N Ireland and Scotland in the near future to reconnect with my McGinnis roots. My father was the last of his particular line of McGinnis' (which is a looming line... his father was the youngest of 20) and I want to do what I can to pass on the heritage. Thank you! |

Angus/MacInnes |
|
Our mum was an Angus, from Malaysia, Singapore. Her dad was an engineer with the east india company. When the Japanese bombed, half her familly went to Australia, and the other to UK. Angus is a very ancient clan, and we usually end up with MacInnes tartans. (Son of Angus) . ♡ |

Historian interested in early Scotland |
|
Earliest records indicate that my Grandmother, born Grace McGinnis, is descended from Clan Mc Innes. The connection is through a nun at St. Stevens Abbey in Dublin. She is listed as of the name of MacInnes, "having three brothers of the name of... McGinnis". As near as we can determine the brothers and their sister fled some some sort of legal trouble in Scotland in the early 1800s and stopped in Dublin. The brothers dropped their sister at the convent in Stevens and changed their names to McGinnis (a common Irish name) and emmigrated to The US. One of the brothers settled in Pennsylvania and his grand daughter or possibly great granddaughter was Grace McGinnis. I am a historian interested in the Pictish culture in 4th/5th century Scotland. I have done research on the Antonine Wall in Straithclyde and am interested in the fifth century Whithorn mission of St. Ninian and the early settlement on Iona. Also interested in early Christian activity in and around present day Dunkeld. |

Jonathan MacInnes Uncle to Johan/Joan MacInnes Sculamus/Breakish Isle of Skye. |
. I am the eldest Grand-child of Joan MacSween (nee Johan/Joan MacInnes). On the day I was Christened on Skye, I've come across info. stating my Gran's father was an Alexander MacInnes too though not recorded in S.R.B . Recently I met with Professor Norman MacDonald, author of recently published new book; 'The Great Book of Skye'. In it, my Gran is mentioned as having saved several Traditional Gaelic songs from the Breakish area that are sung world wide, particularly in Nova Scotia. I have been working on my Gran's genealogy for about 3 years now in spare time, & will appreciate any 'snippet' of information about this MacInnes Family known. The croft & house(s) of No. 1 Sculamus I've presently traced back to 1755, & it & the croft presently remain owned by descendants of Johan.

Jonathan MacInnes Uncle to Johan/Joan MacInnes Sculamus/Breakish Isle of Skye. |
I'm seeking information on Jonathan MacInnes who -emigrated to New Zealand - early 1900's. He was the eldest son of Alexander & Jane (nee MacKinnon) who were married on 29/1/1863 Broadford Strath. He was born on 28/1/1865 at No.1 Sculamus the family home. The other brothers were Alexander, Angus, John & James. He had 4 sisters; Mary, Flora, Margaret (Maggie) & Marion. All born there too. I know D.O.D. for most & what they were doing via Census records bar Jonathan & Angus in particular. Alexander was Head of house in 1901 & '11. Marion, who worked in the Ayrshire area of Scotland as a Domestic/Cook/Housekeeper via same Census years, gave birth to Johan/Joan MacInnes on 24/3/1907 (illegitimate) at the above house too. Sadly Marion died there of TB on 6/10/1913, her mother Jane still alive at this time. John died in the Broadford Schoolhouse on 27/6/1951 as Joan was a teacher at this School, & John MacSween her husband, the Headmaster. James had emigrated to N.Y. in 1923, closely followed by another niece Maggie, illegitimate daughter of Flora. He was personal Valet to Sir Benjamin Sumner Welles & latterly worked for a Sir Charles Hay; ( can't find any present info. on him bar, could this latter be an alias of Sir Charlie Chaplin as I remember him stopping outside the Skye home ?1968/69 with his wife Oona, & giving me a lollypop?). James died on 1/9/1969 in N.Y. None of the brothers are known to have married. I am the eldest Grand-child of Joan MacSween (nee Johan/Joan MacInnes).

Mothers maiden name is McInnes. Great grandfather James King MacInnes of Glasgow dropped the "a" when he came over to US at Ellis Island around 1921
Excited to see the site. Very close to my McInnes family.
I guess I'm a close to being scotch as I can be without being from there directly with my two family names
Stewart of course on fathers side but don't know much on it. I will have to dig on that side
Glad to see the site.

Hello from the West of Canada |
Hello everyone,
I just stumbled across this page after typing in my middle name MacInnes. I know a little about my family history and spent a year living in Scotland. However, I would like to learn more about where my ancestors came from and how they came to Canada. So I thought I would join the community.
I was named after my grandmother who was Isabelle MacInnes and she Married my grandfather George Payne. My parents decided to give me her name as my mother is French (hence Isabelle) and they loved the idea of using MacInnes as my middle name.
I know my family has been in Canada for a long time and can even trace our heritage to those living in the USA before the ware of independence.
Anyway that is enough for now.

Greetings Family |
The family story goes something like this: Angus McInnes (sp?), my grandfather married Gertrude Schroller, McInnes (sp?), then Baumgartner, in Portland, Oregon. I am told Angus for a time worked in a logging camp at the Bull Run Water Shed in Oregon. I am told he was killed due to a fall down a ships hold in Tacoma, Washington circa Nov. 1926, when my father Donald Bruce MacInnis, Dec. 26, 1924 - Mar. 12, 1987 was nearly 2 years of age. Grandmother, legend has it, changed spelling of her only child's surname in an effort make Donald sound more Scottish. Which is not entirely clear for granny was undoubtedly German. Dad married my mother Alma Jean Conlon (indecently granny on mom's side had more German ancestry than anything else, but very much played up the Irish stuff) in Jun. 1952, bearing four children. Jeffrey Donald, Conlyn Marie, Shawn Maureen, and Kevin Bruce - MacInnis. There are four children from us kids, One alive but unknown, Donovan, and Kelly MacInnis along with Carrie Sanchez-Vanover. It is not known where Angus hailed from or if he had siblings or unknown children bastard or otherwise.
Dad was an enthusiastic and highly skilled archer, had a disdain for alcohol, and profound respect for authority. Well, lol, he was damn good with a bow. I can still hear him rant about what body parts he would enjoy to paint blue, and which leader of a country adjacent Scotland he'd relish ta' show'em to. Dear old dad.
Thank You,
j. |

Hello Barbra,
I'm actually in Edinburgh, Scotland, at this very moment! Your grandmother Christina (I'm wondering if Christian) was the sister of my grandfather, John "Red" MacInnis. I met her for the first time when I was sixteen; she came to my father's funeral in Douglas, MA. I've done a lot of family research, but because of many "tall tales," it's hard to know for certain where we come from, but I do have some facts for you. Our great-grandmother Margaret MacInnis was born Margaret MacDonald on Christmas Island, Cape Breton. Our great-grandfather, Neil Duncan, is the slippery one, and I'd prefer to share his story with you in a private email. I have left my email for you here and would be happy to be in touch with you. I have a sister named Jessica, a paternal uncle named Michael, and a daughter named Lila Rose MacInnis-Baumert.
Warm regards to you,
Margaret MacInnis

McGinnis/McKinnis |
Hello all fellow clanmates!
I have recently begun doing the family genealogy. I have traced my father's name back to Thomas McGinnis (McGuinness) who imigrated from Ballinasloe Ireland to California.
Then I noticed a McKinnis line through my mother's side and got that traced back to Charles McKinnis who came from Bona Bornia, Scotland where that line ends. Charles McKinnis fought with the British in the French & Indian war.
It's pretty fun find where my ancestors came from. |

McInnes in Ontario, Canada |
McInnes Family Review
I was a member of the Clan McInnes years ago. Recent records allowed me to make a little more genealogy progress. My great-grandfather Thomas McInnes 1850-1937 shows up in Victoria County, Ontario, Canada from 1885-1888 with the birth of some of his children. He married Isabella McGillivray in 1875 and I now discovered there was a large group of McInnes and McGillivray Scottish settlers in Victoria County, Ontario. There are 26 McInnes and 35 McGillivray names in Victoria County cemeteries http://ocfa.islandnet.com/
The parents of my Thomas McInnes appear to be John MacInnes & Mary Clapperton.
The quest continues. |

Inverness Cape Breton MacInnis Family |
I'm a rookie genealogist in the process of tracing my Mother's family. Her name is Johnina MacInnis ( 1915 - 2003 ) daughter of Alexander MacInnis (1891-1953) and Jessica Ann Rankin (1889 - ? ). Johnina was born in Inverness, Alexander in Cape Mabou , Jessica in Broad Cove Banks all of which are on Cape Breton Island, N.S.
Unfortunately I'm stalled at my 2nd Great Grandfather, James MacInnis (abt 1805 - ? ) husband of Catherine (Katie) MacDougall ( abt 1815 - ? ).
If anyone reading this who can be of help either on the MacInnis or the Rankin side, will be much appreciated.

Hi Everyone:) |
Just wanted to say "Hi" to all the MacInnes' out there.I am very proud to be one of them .My ancestry goes back to Rory Saor McInnes(myGGGGgrandfather) from Barra,Scotland. His sons(Michael,Neil(CastleBay),Donald(Benacadie) &Rory(Iona))and his daughter(Sarah) came to Canada in (abt.)1817.I thought I would let everyone interested know about a book called "The MacKenzies History of Christmas Island Parrish" written by Archibald J. MacKenzie. It tells of alot of Mc/MacInnes'(pg.57),lists spouses and children. It tells what areas that they lived. It is also great for those who want to learn about a MacInnes connection. For me,it listed right up to my grandfather. There is also another book-"Mabou Pioneers" by A.D. MacDonald that lists McInnes' from Mabou Ridge and West Lake Ainslie.I hope some searchers find a few answers with this info.Happy Hunting!Good Health and Good Spirits to all! Joslyn |

I have been the Oklahoma Commissioner for Clan MacKinnon since 2008 and would like to invite all MacInneses in the Oklahoma area to stop by and say, "Hello" at the USCO Iron Thistle Scottish Games & Feastival held the 3rd weekend of April in Yukon, Oklahoma. Also, I am currently working on my four grandparent family genealogies, and some time ago, I came across some ancestors who were actually MacInnis in my Love Family line. Since it appears that I have MacInnes in addition to MacKinnon and MacLaine, I would very much like to honour all these clans in whatever way possible.
I would greatly appreciate hearing from someone within the Clan MacInnes whenever it is convenient.
Respectfully,
Byron Jones |

? Stables Family Attached to MacInnes Tartan |
Just found an old e-mail from my cousin, and she said, according to one of the old tartan books, STABLES is attached to MacInnes ( Angus) but she didn't know if all of the Stables in Scotland are related. We do have Forsyths in the Family. My Great Grandmother was an illegitimate child by a James Forsyth.
I have never been able to find, after looking many times over the years for a Tartan from my STABLES heritage.
Thank you, Judy Anderson nee Stables |

Family History |
|
The Angus name (Aonghais) is very ancient. I don't know where the Anguses came from in Scotland originally. The only Angus ancestor I can find is a John Angus, my great, great, grandfather, who was born around 1800 and emigrated to the United States in 1929 with a wife and two children. They emmigrated from Grenoch although I imagine the Angus family originally came from somewhere else. Does anyone know? |

Help! WHO AM I AND WHERE DID I COME FROM? |
aboutI don't know much about where my origins are because no one in our family got along to well and keeping in touch wasn't their strongest features what's this done in htlm? Anyway, Grampa's name was Daniel MacInnis, his son, my dad is Alan Niel MacInnis, he died 2 yrs ago at 78. Me{his daughter} I'm Anne E MacInnis and my 2 sons are Daniel and Nicholas MacInnis. My granddad told me his people lived in Nova scotia and trickled down first 2 new hamshire then Beverly MA. Where my dad grew up. I tried doing the tree thing, but After my grandad, I just did not know much about him except that he grew up in a farm in NewHamshire. So that's my short story Maybe you know more of a way I could track down my heritage. Thanx, this is an ill sight, and I thought MacInnis were extint. I wonder if I'm related to any of these people, except I see they don't spell theyre name the same way, which makes me believe that I got lost some where down the line Anyway thanx for listening. Oh btw, my name is Hughes now. Can't afford a divorce Anne MacInnis |

John Mcninnes Flora Mcinnes
Strath B1772 Strath B1768
I have been able to trace back my ancesters to the above - John Mcinnes was a crofter in Strath Inverness. Their son Hector married a Clemintine and moved to Glasgow. They had a daughter Flora who married a Mcnee and moved to Liverpool - they had a daughter Clemintine who had a daughter Flora - my grand-mother - so we can trace the name Flora right back to Strath. How would we go about finding out anything about the family? |

Honorary Member |
Maybe you will think, this is a silly question. My father, who died three years ago, had a friend in Nova Scotia who gave him a document that proved him as a honorary member of the McInnis Clan. It is a piece of wood with the words "McInnis" and "Nova Scotia" an a small emblem on it. then then name of my father "Manfred Mertens" and the words "honorary member". (sorry, my English may be hard to understand)
Can you please tell me if this is authentic or is it a peace of touristic souvenir. If it's genuine, I will keep it and I will have another story to tell my future grandchildren. And of course I would support this clan if I ever happen to visit Highland Games;-) Thank you very much for any kind of answer! |

Trying to create a family tree |

I really appreciate this site. I am trying to trace my family's roots and currently not having much luck. This Site has given me the historical information that I have craved for so long. I find it startling that we all currently exist because of one shared ancestor at the root of all of our shared family trees. I am sad we lost our castle, I would have liked to have been able to visit a piece of our heritage. |

My name is Ben McInnis from Rhode Island. My aunt provided the link to this site and I was very excited to find it. I went for a very long time not knowing anything about our shared heritage and then only going on speculation. It was very nice to discover our history through my aunt, and then finding this site so I can further my knowledge of all things MacInnes! I wish the Association the best of luck with its mission and would love to connect with other members of our Clan! |

McInnes Family Tree |
|
Hi from Australia. Just found this site. I am trying to trace my family tree. My Grandmother on my dads side is a MacInnes. I have traced far back as my GG Grandfather Donald MacInnes born in 1840 & died 23 March 1914 who married Mary MacDonald. They had a son Allan born 1871 in Glasgow, Scotland who migrated to Australia & married Elizabeth O'Reilly born 1860 in Cavan Ireland & died 1933 in Australia. They had a daughter Mary MacInnes B19 Jul 1906, Australia & D1995, Australia. My Grandmother married John MacKinnon B 6 Jul 1901 Barra, Scotland & D10 Jun 1955 in London. Any information would be appreciated as I would love to be able to trace the MavInnes's Clan further back than my GG Grandf Donald MacInnes. |

MAGINNIS FROM COUNTY DOWN, NORTHERN IRELAND |
Hi
Just found this site after about 3 years of researching my family tree. Very informative site and well done!!! Maybe I am being silly but I didn't see our Maginnis spelling on your site, please correct me if I'm wrong? Our Scottish connection goes back to about the 1880's when my Great Grand Father James Maginnis lived in Dalmellington in Ayr and worked in the mines. He and his wife Sarah (nee Greenan) moved to Scotland when his children were young and must have stayed while there was plenty of work. Our other connection with Scotland is that his son, my Grand Father married a Scottish girl, Rose Hutchinson in 1915. Rose's parents were both Irish but lived in Dalmellington or Rutherglen where they raised there family during the 1870s and 1880s. All reports show that both families worked in the mine at Dalmellington. Would love to know if anyone has any information or connection with this line of our family. My Dad, Patrick Joseph was actually born in Dalmellington as well before his family returned to Co Down to settle inthe late 1920s. I can get as far back as my Great Great Grandfather Murtagh Maginnis but I only know his name as it is shown on the birth record for James Maginnis, my Great GrandFather who was born in 1835 in County Down. If anyone has any information or can point me in the right direction I would be really grateful. Wishing you all the best for the future, Pattie |

Great to see the site flourishing and lots of McInnes ilk with an interest in their heritage. Check out it has a McInnes cover that you can select when you write a letter for posterity to future generations. If someone from the Clan Society would like to get in touch I can have this set up so a contribution goes to the society when anyone uses the McInnes cover.... and to help the Society. Hello |
|
Hello My name is Lisa I am just starting out trying to figure out my family history. I know very very little. What I do know is My father's mother's madien name is Mckinney her brother's name is Cleon Mckinney with more ancestor's further up our tree that are from scottland and that when they left Scottland they came to America sometime in the 1700's ?? & that they settled in North Carolina that is as much info I have so far. Before my Grandma & Great-Grandma passed I somewhat remember them telling me stories of our family history. I also know that there is a long history of musicians throughout my family. It is a huge hereditary trait to love music and either sing or play an instrument in my family. After reading the Macinnes history I feel it in my heart I am on to something here. Since I was a small child I have always been drawn to the scottish culture as I got older I always wondered deep in my heart why am i so drawn to everything scottish. Everything that I have ever heard seen or known that has to do with scottland just captures my heart and attention. The music, food, kilts, bagpipes stories, legands, history etc you name it I am drawn to it deep within my heart & soul. I have always felt such a strong connection to the scottish culture/ heritage even before I ever knew anything about my bloodline is it possible to feel where you come from on such a deep level? I am so needing help to figure out how to know for sure where I come from & how to confirm what I believe I have always known in my heart that I am scottish. Most of my father's relatives I either don't know their names or they are decessed like I said I have no clue where to even start. if it is possible I would love some tips on how to begin. Would it or is it possible just to get a DNA test or is that maybe hard to determine if i am so far down the bloodline. Please if anyone knows where I should start I could use all the help I can get. |

My McInnis Family |
My MacInnises of Castle Bay, Shenacadie and Iona are descended from Rory McInnis of Barra. His sons, Michael, Neil, Donald and Rory, and one daughter, the second wife of hector McNeil (John Piper) of Piper?s Cove, came to this country. The sons came about the year 1817. Michael and Neil settled at Castle Bay: Donald at Benacadie, and Rory at Iona.
It appears that they were shipwrights and that they used to work at their trade in Glasgow and in other parts of Scotland, hence the appellation, ?Saor?, or carpenter that was generally used after their surnames. An adz that ?Rory Saor? worked with in the old country is still doing service among his descendents at Iona.
Michael McInnis was married to Catherine Galbraith. Issue: John, Donald, Stephen, Neil, Mary and Sarah.
Stephen McInnis (Michael) was a blacksmith and farmer. He settled at Shenacadie and became the first post-master of that place. He married Mary, daughter of Jonathon McPhee (Tailor) Issue: Ann, Catherine, John, Michael, Mary, Lucy, Elizabeth, Ambrose and Sarah.
Ann married Joseph Bryden, Miller.
Catherine Married Stephen M. McKinnon.
John settled at Shenacaide and married Margaret McDonald (Ealasaid Thearlaich) = (*Elizabeth Thearlich), of McKinnon?s Harbour. Issue: Liza, Mary Ann, Sarah, Stephen Alex, Mary M., Sarah M. and Christie. A number of these were school teachers and Stephen Alex is a telegraph operator in Alberta.
Michael settled at North Sydney where he was in the employ of the Nova Scotia Steel and Coal Col for a long time.
Lucy Married Alex McSween, of Glasgow.
Elizabeth married Archie N. McKinnon, of Big Beach.
Sarah married Hugh Farrell, merchant, Benacadie.
Ambrose settled in the old homestead and married a daughter of Donald McKinnon (Niel), of Shenacadie. Issue: Stephen, Mary Agnes, Flora and Daniel. Stephen is telegraph operator at George?s River. Flora is married to a McNeil from Gillis Point, and lives in Sydney.
I have more family information. |

McInnis Family Lot 36 PEI |

My great grandmother was Ann McInnis born around 1864 (died 1963) on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Her father was Allan McInnis (born on PEI around 1828) and her mother was Mary Flynn from Newfoundland. I haven't had any success going beyond Allan McInnis. Any PEI researchers out there? Anne's siblings from 1881 census are: Mary, James, Allan, Bridget, Kate, Francis, and Sarah Catherine. I am happy to discover Scottish ancestry to go with my Irish background. |

I'm Confused! |
Ok here goes. My last name is Holland and I'm trying to find out if it is associated with a clan out there... I'm getting too many conflicting answers. HELP!? I've read that Holland is associated with the Angus district as well as that sept or clan, which ever it is (told you I was confused), and now I've found that your clan is linked to the name Angus. Do you know whether or not the Holland surname is also linked to your clan?
Any help in understanding all this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time
Leslie Holland

My grandfather was Daniel MacInnes |
|
My grandfather was born in Calais, ME on 2/3/1866. His father was James MacInnes born in Edinboro, Scotland and his mother Mary A. Boyle or Ellen were born in Scotland also. Daniel married my grandmother, Lydia Burdett on 4/24/1892 in Providence, RI and died in Winthrop, ME on 6/23/1920. The had 14 children (some died at birth). They were Arthur Donald, Charles Albert, Daniel Webster, Harold Wilfred, Flora Louise, Clarence John, James Ralph, Gladys Louise, Robert Francis, Hugh Warren, Florence Grace, Dorothy Margaret, Lester Theodore, Martha Alice and Catherine Mae. All with the last name MacInnes. Sometime the spelling of the last name was recorded wrong. ALso shows McInnes, McInis and MacInis. Does any of this sound familiar |

Clan chieftain question |

It has come to my attention that Clan MacInnes has NOT had a chief for several years. I am of the MacInnes bloodline and am willing to assume the position of Clan MacInnes chieftain. What must I do to verify my claim and whom do I contact to verify such? I respectfully await your prompt response. Respect and regards, Aaron W. Christensen www.ghostranger506@yahoo.com |

McMaster Research |

My grandmother always wondered about the origins of her great grandmother, Mary Jane McMaster. I never found much. Now I have found a link between McMaster and McInnes so hoping to find the McMaster family origins. Like all Americans, I have a mixed background. I was always drawn to my celtic roots thru my irish grandmother and my half scottish grandmother. Happy to be here! |

Hello there! |
|
I must say I am very happy to have found this site. I do not know much about my family tree, only that there are not many of us left here in Ma. My father Dean (deceased) is the son of Chester McInnis (deceased). Thats all I know. I do know that I have/had family in Hawaii (second or third cousins). I'm very happy to know that my family is not as small as I thought. Good to see there are so many McInnis' out there. |

Looking For My Family |
I was adopted at the age of ten and was given the name of Vincent. My Biological Father was James Donald McInnis, son of James Daniel McInnis.
I have an older brother James Douglas McInnis. My father was a Geophysist in Calgary Alberta. He wrote me once many years ago. My grandmother was Lucy Hatch McInnis. I have an aunt in Coalhurst Alberta, her name is Marjorie R. Davidson. This is all I know. I would like to share more information but it is probably smart that I do not in this format. All of this information can be found online though. hello everyone, I feel a bit closer to home. Thanks for the site. |

Macinnes of Harris |
|
Hi to all the Macinnes clan out there. I'm researching my grandfather's (Duncan born 1901) family and have got back as far my great, great, great, grandfather, Donald who was born circa 1800 and his wife, Christina (aka Christy aka Cristy Macdonald) and I've hit a brick wall!!! From what I've managed to find out Donald was alive when the 1861 census was completed but dead before his wife died in November 1865 (at Rhenigidale, Harris). Christina's parents were Duncan Macdonald and Marion Macleod. I know that a whole lot of Macinnes's went to Nova Scotia and from there on to Australia and NZ but any help on the Macinnes's who stayed home would be very much appreciated. (I myself was born in Fort William, Scotland but have been living in NZ for about 16 years). Any help would be soooo much appreciated, even if I could track down any of Donald's siblings, that would be awesome. Cheers |

I would like more info on Charles and his history. It is all so wonderful when we learn more. It is good to remember where we come from and keep our traditions alive. |

Hello! I have been doing my family tree and have traced the McInnis family back to John McInnis, 1815-1887 in Owen Sound, Canada. His son was Donald, 1859-1917. His son was Peter, 1880-1957. Peter was my grandfather. He came to Luce County Michigan and became a US citizen. My father, Donald, 1907-1977 had six children: Donald, Mary Alice, Margaret, David, Tom, and Gary. I am interested in any information on this branch of the McInnis family. The first McInnis to come to Canada was Margasret Millan McInnis, a widow with several children. |

I would be interested to hear from anyone originating from the Barra/Eriskay/South Uist region who may be related. Also have strong links with MacIntyre/MacLean.
Keep up the good work to all concerned with the site... |

Hello |
|
As an Austin, I was naturaly born into the Keith clan. Howver, On one bloodline from my grandmothers side, I traced my heritage back to the year of 1090 in Scotland. If my research is correct, I'm related to an "Earl of Angus, Dufugan who was born in that year - 1090. Then his son, (I think) Earl of Angus, Gillbride born in the year 1118? But I'm not sure if that is completely correct. Just the same, it seems that no matter which bloodline I trace back, they all started somewhere in Scotland. |

I have come across two similar stories of the dispersal of McMasters by the McLeans, one in the Mclean and other histories dating the event around 1432 and in the MacInnes history putting it at around 1335. Does anyone know whether these are mutually exclusive or which is the correct date and story.

Relatives in Bowmore, Islay |
Jane MacInnes, born in Bowmore, Islay 1838, is my great grandmother.
I would very much like to contact anyone in North America who might be related.
In the 1960's a Paul MacInnes, who had an engineering business in Rochester, NY, visited Bowmore. The Business is still operating with the MacInnes name in Rochester but Paul sold it to the current owner's Father and they had no contact. I interpolate that Paul was my Fathers generation (born 1897). |

from the Prince Edward Island MacInnis's |
|
I was born on Prince Edward Is. , Canada and our family moved to the USA when I was young. As I've searched for info about our clan (much before the internet) I've came across two tartens,,,the green one shown on this site,,,,,,, and a red one,,, is there two branches of the clan? Anyway, it's wonderful to know so many that share my name and heritage. |

McGinnis |
So, I am adopted but have always been linked with my birth mother and never my birth father but my adoptive mom says his last name is McKinley or something like that. But my Biological father had the name of McGinnis. Today, I went to the Highland games located in Northeast Florida and found out that my grandfather's last name is traced to the MacInnes. I'm really excited about all this and plan to trace down more family with this discovery. Now all I have to get is to find my birth father and track down that bloodline. |

Going Home for a visit |
|
We are very excited that in July 2010 we are going to Iona for a visit almost 150 years after our great great grandfather John Macinnes left with his wife and family to start a new life in Australia. There are many descendants in Australia from this family and hopefully we will be able to make contact with our distant cousins who still live on Iona. We will be touring around other parts of Scotland too. Can't wait! |

Illinois MacInnes |

Writing for my loving wife Kimberly. She is a MacInnes (Mother Mary MacInnes and grandparents Archie and Etty MacInnes from Greenock). We try to visit across the pond and thru the mist at least once a year. Her cousin Elizabeth lives in Greenock, and with her cousin, we have been exploring heritage, since they are the last of the direct family linkage. Found some ancestry in Campbellton. |

Chariots of Fire |
|
In the movie "Chariots of Fire" (1981) i always loved the scene of Eric Liddell (main character) participating in the race that takes place at a Scottish Games. Since watching that movie as a child i always wanted to participate in the races that i thought were held at Scottish Games. I have tried to find information on if the games still have races, but from what i have found, that is something not done. If someone knows anything about races being held at the games please help me find information on that. Thankyou |

SCOTTISH FIELD |
|
To let Clan MacInnes know, that Mhairi Ross (nee Livingstone) has written an article about St John's Church, Ballachulish. This will be published in the JULY edition of the SCOTTISH FIELD - just before our celebration to welcome Clan MacInnes on 19th July. NB Mhairi's ancestors are from Ballachulish & removed the bones of James Stewart of the Glen from the gibbet @ Ballachulish Ferry (Appin Murder). |

Mrs |
Hello!
I was married to Andrew Hunter McInnes & have 2 children who still bear the name, a son Andrew Jason and a daughter Nadine. My daughter has been researching the family tree and hopes one day to visit Scotland again. Her grandmother was formerly McCrae and her grandfather was also Andrew Hunter. They emigrated to South Africa sometime around 1953 and never visited Scotland again! My present husband and I tour Scotland every year during September and October. We are so sorry not to be able to be at the 2009 Homecoming but wish you all every best wish for a successful gathering!
Kind regards
Helen & Charles |
