I have been getting all the old family bits and pieces together for framing and I have an old silver ladle that looks like a punch ladle. It is solid silver with a wooden twist handle (a bit split) ..no hall marks but it has a 1745 coin fitted into its base with the head revealed in the inside of the ladle and the reverse is what it sits on. I assume this was made in Scotland as a reminder of the 45...probably made I suspect shortly after. I know that a relation by marriage was flogged for helping row Charles Edward Stewart to safety with a Captain John McKinnon. What I would like to know is if ladles like this were common or if anyone else knows of one? I have other bits and pieces also including a paper found in an old trunk dated 1805 etc. Any help in identidying what it is would be appreciated. _________________ Hi from New Zealand - Name: Clinton McInnes - descended from MacInnes's of Sleat & Strath - Leitir Fura, Drumfearn, Heast, Boreraig, Sculimas / Breakish.
